Thrifty Alternatives To New Cars

I decided to scour the internet and see which used cars could offer thrifty alternatives to new cars. It seems like every other day a new car comes out.

Majority of the time they are just facelifts but manufacturers have started to pump out cars like there’s no tomorrow.

That’s a bad thing if you are the type of person that needs the latest and greatest, but for those that like a deal (like me), its the best of times.

New car: Jeep Gladiator

If you’re looking to buy Jeep’s all new Gladiator, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to wait anymore. Your mild utility off road platform came out about 10 years ago, and it’s called the Hummer H3T.

The H3T is the perfect alternative to the Gladiator on multiple levels. It has the same tough rugged looks, decent off-road ability, and mild utility.

Also since they barely sold them and Hummer went under, they’ll be way more rare than the Jeep. Base models came with 5 cylinders but the Alpha trim came with a 5.3 Vortec V8.

New car: Lamborghini Urus

If you love Lamborghini’s Urus, I gather you’re the type of person that likes the idea of a twin turbo SUV with super car performance, and striking coupe like looks.

Firstly, good news for you, BMW invented this vehicle almost 10 years ago. First generation BMW X6M’s can be had under $30k now.

They have the striking coupe looks, and other worldly performance thanks to its intelligent all wheel drive system and twin turbo 4.4l V8 making 555 hp.

Secondly, throw an ECM tune on one of these cars and they will give the Urus a run for its money.

New car: Rolls Royce Cullinan

Looking for the most Luxurious off road experience? Rolls Royce just rolled out an uber luxury off roader that is designed to cocoon its occupants from the world both on and off road.

While I’m sure the Cullinan is an epic luxury experience, another English manufacturer defined the Luxury off-road segment decades ago.

A Range Rover is all the luxury you need with tested capability to back it up. I assure you the Range Rover will provide you with an equal ride quality to that of the Roller with bundles of money to spare.

New Car: Mercedes-Benz G Wagon

When Mercedes released the civilian version of the Gelandewagen in 1979 it created an icon of automotive history. Now all these years later they have finally released an all new version.

So what used car alternative do I think can compare to this all new model? Well the the previous version of course.

The New G-wagon looks so similar to the old one that it’s hard to tell the difference unless they’re parked side by side. While I’m sure the ride is vastly improved on this new model, the satisfaction comes from the G-wagon’s appearance, not it’s ride.

This car is all about its bad-ass military off road looks. It’s purchased to make a statement. The old G-wagon accomplishes that just fine if not better than the new version.

What do you think? Newer is better? Old is gold? Know of any other thrifty alternatives to new cars?
